Chronic back discomfort can be very difficult to work with because, sometimes, the signs of tissue damage or injury have little or nothing to do with the feelings of pain. While one patient can have discomfort and a rupturting spinal disc, some people have very little pain caused by a bulging or herniated disc or even more serious damage.
As back pain develops, it may also be harder for the patient and chiropractor to tell where the source of the problem is actually located. Too often, the feelings of pain are felt in a certain region but do not relate well to any particular anatomical feature.
As pain begins to become more chronic, it can take on a life of its own. People may have a continual nagging ache accompanied by periodic flare-ups of severe pain. Furthermore, the soreness can travel throughout the body, causing problems elsewhere in the spine, neck, upper body, hips, knees, and even further.
